Punch Needle Hooking in ANY Gauge - Instructor: Janet Conner

When commercially spun yarn became available in the late 19th century, hookers turned to a hollow shaft needle and “punched” with yarn.  The design is punched from the back using a specialized punch needle tool, creating a series of loops on the front surface.  Using my hand dyed wool yarns makes all the difference in antique appearance and quality.  In this half day class, students will choose from among a variety of complete kits ($25) which include an original folk art design, all hand dyed and natural wool threads, and complete instructions. Together we will learn the technique for completing and displaying this beautiful and portable fiber craft!  By altering the tool and backing, it is possible to punch using fine threads all the way up to bulky rug yarn.  These various gauges will be displayed and practiced in class. PLEASE CONTACT instructor (before June 1st) if you would like to purchase an Amy Oxford punch needle for worsted or bulky yarn. ($39 tool, plus $25 yarns and small pattern on monks cloth)
