Carolina Star -
Instructor:
Ida Atkinson Carolina Star Back by popular demand! Whether you see this as a holiday ornament or a year round part of your decor, this is a fun and decorative product to take home. This will be a 1/4" flat reed star. We will weave two halves and set aside to dry. Students will put together halves at home. If you are speedy there is opportunity to make two more halves with 1/2" flat reed. A demo will be given of how to glue the two halves together. Don't worry. It is fairly simple to create a lovely finished product Make sure to bring 24 spring clothespins per star. Corner Pocket -
Instructor:
Ida Atkinson Corner Pocket A right triangular wooden base with a curved hypotenuse sets the shape for a basket that fits perfectly into a corner. Stakes will be inserted into this base and then three rows of twine anchor them into the base. Continuous weave makes the sides build up quickly. Focus will be on shaping. Rim is lashed on with cane for a delicate and different look. Students will have a choice of one of two colors. There is an optional cane braid that will be demonstrated for interested students. Skill Level: Some under over experience is recommended. Carding Batts - Instructor:
Christina Boucher In this class we will be carding batts using a variety of materials to create something unique and individual to your personal taste. Learn to make crazy textures or something more blended and refined. In my batts I like to think about keeping the character of the individual sheep breeds and embellishing with color and texture. Spinning - Instructor:
Christina Boucher If you are looking for a relaxed approach to leveling up your spinning skills, I will be teaching my technique for bringing out the natural beauty of the Longwool breeds. We will spend the afternoon working towards understanding and creating balanced singles ply yarns using hand dyed locally grown fiber from my favorite sheep. Enrollment: 4 min. 10 max. Miniture Punch Needle - Instructor: Janet Conner This is an old craft, which mimics the appearance of hooked rugs, but in miniature doll house size! The design is punched from the back using a specialized punch needle tool, creating a series of tiny loops on the front surface. Using my hand dyed wool yarns makes all the difference in antique appearance and quality. Students will choose from among a variety of complete kits which include an original folk art design, all hand dyed and natural wool threads, and complete instructions. Together we will learn the technique for completing and displaying this beautiful and portable fiber craft! Skill Level: All skill levels are welcome.

Penny Rug - Instructor: Janet Connor
These are simple appliqued shapes of felted wool fabrics layered to create simple folk art patterns and designs. Each shape is embroidered in place using a blanket stitch around its borders. Penny Rugs are so named because one of the commonest designs is small circles layered onto one another. Seldom actually used as rugs, these wool appliques can be used as table mats or wall hangings. Small projects could include a scissors case or an eyeglass case, pincushion or little bag.

Sekka / Fish Wind Sock - Instructor: Kathleen Goddu Create a traditional Japanese fish wind sock. We will begin by creating the fabric using the Sekka shibori technique. You will be amazed by the simplicity of this technique and the mesmerizing, illuminating patterns it reveals. Use this beautiful fabric to create a traditional Japanese fish wind sock to hang inside or outside of your home/camp. When the windsock is finished it will be on a swivel so that it will spin in the wind!! Kantha Stiching

Kantha: Kantha refers to embroidered, unwadded quilts made with layers of discarded fabric. Women of Bengali embroidered Kantha creating richly decorated textiles that were a testament of their love, as a celebratory document of rites of passage and as an archive of self-expression. Today it's about sustainability, mindfulness, and self-expression. You will learn a little about the history of Kantha and learn several basic stitches. From there you will either create some whimsical animals or begin to formulate and design the story you want to tell. These samples and stories can be incorporated into other pieces you may make in the future or added to something you are working on now. Skill level: all Enrollment: 10 Workshop Fee: $85. Shawl Collar - Instructor:
Betsey Leslie The Shawl Collar is my own design using a combination of wet felting and needle felting. This workshop is perfect for beginners as well as accomplished felters. It is worked in a circle and cut on a spiral to create a ruffled edge. All of my wools are hand dyed and there will be lots of "exotic" fibers and long wool curls to incorporate into your design. Needle Felted Ornaments Instructor: Betsey Leslie Think Christmas and beyond! Fun for all levels from beginner to advanced felters. We will be creating 3 hanging ornaments and a self standing figure combining wet and needle felting techniques. First we will wet felt the styrofoam balls with wool and then use felting needles in different sizes to sculpt wool onto the base for these great 3D ornaments.Including Santa, snowmen or snow women and the knowledge to make an original design.All of the wool is hand dyed specially for this class and everything you need for materials is provided. Needle
Felted Sheep w/lamb Instructor Betsey Leslie Let's have some fun and learn a new technique creating a free standing sheep sculpture using a wire framework. The curls are needle-felted onto a woolen and wire core to create a boucle affect. Nuno Felted Scarf - Instructor: Betsey Leslie Nuno is the Japanese word for cloth and this particular technique was developed by an Australian fiber Artist. You will be creating a wool fiber sandwich with silk chiffon fabric in the middle. Loose wool fibers are saturated with soapy water and coaxed through the silk to felt with the wool fibers on the other side . The lightweight fabric created drapes beautifully and it is so thin that it can be seen through when held to the light. Enrollment: 8 Workshop fee: $80.00

Beginner Rug Hooking Workshop Instructor: Elizabeth Miller Would you like to learn the heritage art of North American rug hooking in an easy going, relaxed environment? You will have your choice of one of the 12" x 12" patterns shown to color plan to your own preferences. Workshop will include: Introduction to traditional rug hooking including some history of the craft, an overview of styles, how to choose appropriate hooking wools and other materials, tools, rules (there aren't too many!), tips, and tricks, and getting started on our projects. Particular attention will be paid to good and ergonomically healthy technique, troubleshooting typical beginner issues, and creating high quality, durable pieces. Although you will not complete the entire piece in class, I will also demonstrate steaming, serging, and finishing techniques. Offered finishing techniques will be twill tape binding, pillow making, and whipstitch binding. When it comes time to do these for your piece after the workshop, I will be available online or in-person in my studio by appointment to assist. The Famous Dorset Button- Cartwheel Style Instructor - Linda Perry The historic Dorset Button was originally crafted in Dorset England, spanning from 1600- 1850. Learn how to make the versatile Cartwheel Dorset version, including tips on color combinations, use of the ideal wool yarn, and discover various applications and uses. The student will have the opportunity to complete three 1" buttons, choosing from a wide array of yarn colors supplied by the instructor. Different ways to use the buttons- from practical to decorative end products will be shown. Students will make a finished shawl/kilt pin using one of their creations. All materials will be included for three buttons and the shawl/kilt pin. If you get the bug to continue this captivating craft, the instructor will have additional supplies for purchase. Rigid Heddle Weaving - Instructor: Karen Smith This is a great introduction to simple weaving techniques. Using a rigid heddle loom, warp the loom using the direct method, and weave a scarf. Bring your own rigid heddle loom, use one of the instructor's looms or purchase a loom. Yarn for the warp will be provided but bring your own soft, chunky yarn (200 yards) for the weft.

Design Your Own Sashiko Project Instructor: Linda Whiting If you can do a running stitch you can do Sashiko (sash-ko) to create beautiful household items and clothing. If you have taken a beginning class, this is an opportunity to expand your skills to design your own project. Students will work on their chosen piece using vellum tracing paper and an assortment of Sashiko patterns to compose the designs for stitching. Once the final tracing is complete students will transfer the designs using white carbon paper and begin stitching. ***If you have never done Sashiko before it would be best to start with a simple project like a table runner or placemats. ***Those with some Sashiko experience and sewing ability might choose to do a simple vest or jacket. Fanciful Embroidered Trees Instructor: Linda Whiting Using a few simple stitches and some fancy threads on felt, create some decorative trees to display or give as gifts when Christmas comes in December. Working first on paper we will use our imaginations to create a delightful set of trees. If you already know embroidery stitches you will have a head start, but stitches will be explained so even if you have not done any embroidery you will learn enough simple stitches to make lovely trees. Once your layered trees are stitched while flat you will wrap them over a cone to stitch them to stand alone. Trees can be stacked when put away after Christmas. Beads and sequins can be added to make them sparkle. Rainbows - Instructor: Linda Whiting We all know the primary colors of red, yellow and blue. With just these three we can create a full rainbow. But did you know there are different kinds of rainbows? Using fuchsia, bright yellow and turquoise as our three primaries will create a bright, tropical colored rainbow, while a cranberry red, gold, and deep blue will create a rich traditional rainbow of colors. There are many reds and blues and yellows to choose from. What three will give you the colors you want to use in your work? Do you want bright greens or loden greens, sunshine yellows or rich golden yellows, vibrant red violets or rich purples? By changing the root primaries you can create the perfect colors for your painting, dyeing and other colorwork. Suitable for anyone who likes to play with color, no experience necessary. No Scrap Left Behind Quilted Jacket Instructor:
Conni Whittaker Make a scrappy crazy quilt jacket. Hand or machine sew or a mixture of both. You probably won't have a complete jacket at the end but we will cover finishing in class. Skill Level: Machine sewers should have used their sewing machine before and know how to thread and wind the bobbin. Hand sewers should know how to thread and use a needle. Enrollment: 8 Workshop Fee: $85 Bring to Class: An oversized prewashed 100% cotton or close to it sweatshirt a few sizes larger than you usually wear so that it is large enough to fit over the type of clothing you will be wearing under it. Inspired Sewing Book Instructor - Conni Whittaker This sewing book will hold your small scissors, pins, needles, threads, thimble, buttons; anything you think you'll need in one place. We'll being using leftover scrap bits to hand stitch a Kawandi inspired cover for our Sewing Book and to create the pages. Optional: you can move on to my sewing machine to create the pages. Fruit and Vegitable Printing Instructor: Marcy Young, Fiber Artist, rug maker Participants will use fruit and vegetables to make 2 flour sack dish towels. We will cut and ink the vegetables to print onto the cotton towels. These are great for every day use or a gift. A variety of color options. Students must supply 2 fruits or vegetables that we will cut at class time, for best results. Class size: 4 min 10 max Class Fee $35. Materials fee: $10 (paid directly to instructor) includes 2 towels and written instructions. Option to purchase additional towels if time allows. Cutting board, knife, inks, paintbrushes available for class use. Additional vegetables will be available to use. Sunflowers and Chrysanthemums Instructor: Marcy Young, Fiber Artist, rug maker Students will use Oxford punching, traditional proddy and some hand sewing to make crafted stem flowers like sunflowers and chrysanthemums. Oxford punching and proddy basics will be demonstrated for your flowers. Wool and craft felt will be used to create flowers. With quilt fabric and simple hand stitching will make flowers 3D. And finally, with some wire, wood and floral tape, the flowers will come to life. Great for a seasonal display that won't wilt. Punch needles, proddy tools and other supplies will be available for use during class. Craft felt, wool yarn, quilt fabric and other supplies will be provided to make 2-3 flowers and stems for this half day class. Some simple hand stitching will be required. Sunflower
Coasters - Instructor: Marcy Young Students will use Oxford punching and traditional proddy to make 4 bright and cheerful coasters. Wool yarn, craft felt, and some hand stitching will make these fun and gift able table coasters. Punch needles, proddy tools and other supplies will be available for use during class. Craft felt, wool yarn, quilt fabric and other supplies will be provided to make a set of 4 flower coasters for this half day class. Some simple hand stitching will be required. Oxford punching and proddy basics will be demonstrated for your flowers. Locker
Hooking Pillow Instructor: Marcy
Young Students will use a locker hook, cotton grid backing, and fleece strips to create a soft pillow. Grid backing and fleece prep will be reviewed before participants learn to lockerhook the edges and design of a pillow. Simple designs to choose from include, sun, flower, star or simple stripes. Instruction to complete the pillow will be provided and demonstrated. Individual completion of the pillow during class depends upon individual pace during class. Enrollment: 4 - 10 Class fee: $60.00 Materials fee: $35.00 (paid directly to instructor) Includes: Cotton grid backing Fleece Yarn for securing the hooked fleece Locker hook for students to keep. Students must bring to class: a square pillow filler 14x14 inches or 16x16 inches. ( or provided for additional $10 - please let teacher know before coming) Students should also bring a pair of cloth scissors to cut fleece.
